Hi,

As I also run a few SMF2/PortaMX sites,
I wanted to know, what is best setting for SEO.

Reently I have read about the Nofollow tags to not give other
sites the PageRank via my forum back to their sites,
when they have posted links in my forums...

So is it really better to install a NoFollow tag ?

I just saw, that simplemachines.org
now also uses NoFollow tags for all the
posted links inside their forum.

So, is it really better to keep a high pagerank
for my own forum, if I install a NoFollow tag ?

How could I do this ?

What would be the benefits or what would be better or
not so good ?

Please post your experience over here with that,
how Google will rank your forum.

Here an overview about the robots META tag:

Googlebot obeys the noindex, nofollow, and noarchive Robots META Tag. If you place the tag in the head of your HTML/XHTML document, you can cause Google to not index, not follow, and/or not archive particular documents on your site.

The content="robots-terms" is a comma separated list used in the Robots META Tag for Google that may contain one or more of the following keywords without regard to case: noindex, nofollow and/or noarchive.

noindex
Document will not be indexed by Googlebot.

nofollow
Internal and external links in the document will not be followed by Googlebot.

noarchive
Google will not archive a copy of the document (Google's Cached Page).

nosnippet
Google will not display snippets and will not archive a copy of the document (Google's Cached Page). A snippet is a text excerpt from the returned result page that has all query terms bolded. Google Remove Snippets

If this Robots META Tag is missing, or if there is no content, or the robot terms are not specified, then the robot terms will be assumed to be "index, follow" (e.g. "all") which is the default indexing behavior for most major search engine spiders.

if we want to have our forums very good up in the Google index ?

is the
index,follow
the best
or just the
nofollow ?

Is it really not good for your own PageRank to let Google index
all internal links and links to external sites ?

So should we really set the robots meta tag to nofollow ?

I think both dofollow and nofollow are important for seo. Because both help in different ways.
