I know you hate this... but any time frame on the public release?

I have a shiny new RC3 forum hanging in limbo and don't want to have to go in and hack the previous version just to get the install to work.

* I appreciate very much that you responded so quickly to the release of RC3.

If you spent at least 5 US$ for charter membership you can already get it.

Sorry. I can not support fee-based add-ons for a free core product.

Besides... I "gave at the office." Over the past several years, I have developed and released 512 add-ons for another product... free and with no obligation. I do understand than PMX is a free product... and appreciate that very much. But I'm in a time crunch and just need to know what the time frame is for public release. Do I hack, wait or go with another portal system?

PortaMx IS a free system .. but we get new releases first to our Charter Member (same as SMF do).
This is a "enhanced test" phase, to find out last bugs or mistakes.
If all solved, we develope a free release ...

So .. you have to wait or use other portal .. it's your choice.
But it is not correct to attack us just because we do the same thing as smf...

Ahh .. but we can, we MUST?

Sorry if you felt attacked.  I just stated that I was not going to pay for an add-on to free software.

And all I really wanted to know was what time frame are we looking at for the public release?  Days? Weeks? Months?

Yes, of course.   Especially the part under Granted Rights ( 3.    You may make modifications to the Software and distribute your modifications, ... )... so I'm not sure what point you are making.

As you mentioned in another related topic, you modified the install to get the current version of PMX to install on on RC3. I would be content to do the same. That would allow me to keep using PMX until the public release is available.

I assume that changing the version  RC2 to RC3 in the package.xml file would do the trick & allow the package manager to install it... but I also suspect there may be more to it than that.

Care to share?   :)

You can try to install a v0971 release on RC3 -- but I'm sure that this not works properly  ;D
Why we have make a new release you think?
Small fixes results in a update release like 0.971-3 or so ...

Thanks. I just figured out an easy way to install older mods on new versions of SMF... using the Advanced feature on the Package installer to set the Package Manager to emulate RC2.

* As I updated from RC2 (not a full install), the Package Manager thinks that all the old mods are still installed... so you have to go to the smf_log_packages table of the database and delete the records of whatever mods you want to reinstall.  Then the package manager will allow them to install.

Having done this, the 0971 version of PMX installed smoothly and is running smoothly so far. All the data for the old settings, panels, blocks, etc...  is preserved so everything looks and acts just as it had.

I am getting one error that appears near the top of each page :  ( Fatal error: Call to undefined function getTemplateLayer()() in... ... /Sources/Load.php(2094) : eval()'d code on line 199 )

I recall seeing this after installing 0971 originally... and fixed it. But I don't remember if that was a PMX or SMF fix.

Ok, you can do what you want .. but please note, that we can't give support for this (RC3 and PortaMx 0.971)

Opps!  Scratch that.  Initially 097 appears to work fine in RC3. But when throughly tested, not as robust as it ought to be. Better to wait for 098.

Please hurry!!   ;)

Thanks again !!
