Tiny Portal to PortaMx
« on: 07.06.10, 23:02:17 »
Well now that bloc has announced that Tiny Portal will no longer be continuing development, I and I suspect many others will be looking for an easy way to migrate our forums from TP to something else.  My question, is there an easy way to change from TP to PortaMx?

Thanks

Thanks Fel, I was hoping for an easy way.  PortaMx looks like something I'm interested with for my site.  Naturally, this is going to be a lot more work than I expected.  But then, Tiny Portal was work so I'm looking forward to learning something new.  Can you tell me if there are custom themes that will work with PortaMX and where I may be able to locate them?

Thanks again and looking forward to working with PortaMX.

None of the 2.0 portals require theme edits, so all 2.0 themes will work with all 2.0 portals. :)
Using Internet Explorer 6 on the internet is like urinating in a public swimming pool.
It's rude, there's no excuse for it, and anyone who does it should be ashamed of themselves.

Thanks antechinus, I know this is going to be a learning curve situation but I'm totally up for it.  I received some great news from my doctor today and that has really brightened my life and sprites.

Thanks guys for all your help.  Well after a day of changing permissions and getting rid of 'Apache' ownership files I am happy to announce that I now have PortaMx up and running on a test site.  Next will come the template changes to my official sites template.  Still not sure how to convert my old SMF version over to the latest version but that will come.  Man, Apache can really give you some issues sometimes.  Just glad there is a really good support forum on this site.  Looks like PortaMx will be on my site for the next several years.

Thanks again and thanks for PortaMx.

If you have not used any download manager things from TP, it should
be prettyy easy to convert from TP to PMX.
You only need to go to edit your blocks and copy and paste them into
the PortaMX blocks.
Sometimes you have to edit a few block codes, but mostly if you
used just Javascript codes or PHP codes, that will also work
with PortaMX, so you only have to choose the right blocks.

If you need a download manager, you could
use the one from user VBgamer45

Hope this helps.

Regards, Stefan.
P.S. If you already used the TP article system, then you would need
to convert it to single pages in PMXor wait,
until Feline has her new version coming out...
