Porting Subforums Mod To ElkArte
« on: 14.08.14, 10:07:12 »
I am trying to port this mod to work with ElkArte. My own use of course since the license prohibits distribution and this is not supported by PortaMX currently. Will it be any problem?

No if you leave the PortaMx copyright in all the files unchanged.
You can add your Name to the header in the files...

Something like this will do right?

Code: [Select]
/**
* AdminSubforums.php
*
* Software Version: ELK Subforums v1.0
* Software by: PortaMx corp.
* Ported to ElkArte by: ahrasis
*
**/

I have done some part of it. But it is not in any working mod as yet. For my level, it is quite difficult to understand ElkArte as yet though I have been porting some of my mod there. Plus, I'm becoming busy with life again. I think I will share it in here later. Interested party may continue if I failed to give my time. :)

No hurry ..  ;)
Many are stubborn in relation to the path, a few in relation to the target.

The progress is good but I can't get anything working yet. I just want to clear a license issue a bit.

I intend to change the license in the code like this:
Code: [Select]
/**
 *
 * This software is a derived product, based on:
 * @name      PortaMX-SubForums
 * @copyright PortaMx Corp. http://portamx.com (SMF Version)
 *
 * This software is converted to ElkArte:
 * @convertor  ahrasis http://elkarte.ahrasis.com (ElkArte Version)
 * @license BSD http://opensource.org/licenses/BSD-3-Clause
 * @name      SFA: Sub Forums Addon
 *
 */

And since I will be maintaining this ElkArte addon once it is ready, I also intend to change the package xml to:
Code: [Select]
<id>ahrasis:SubForums</id>
<name>SFA: Sub Forums Addon</name>
<version>1.41</version>

All the above is just a suggestion and can be changed according to your requirement.

One or two more things, since I forked it from Github, I will be uploading this to Github as well and let others to fork it, if they want it.

But I am not sure whether it is ok to do this. I also not sure any other things that you may wish to maintain, like your logo etc...

Please provide your feedback especially on your requirements for things to be kept untouched in this addon.

Thank you.

So far ElkArte looks wonderful. Test it yourself.

Bump. I still did not comprehend many things in ElkArte and find it quite difficult to finish the work for the time being. If PortaMX wishes to port Subforums Mod to ElkArte, that would be better. ;) I can easily get confused and lost especially in log code. lol.

Currently we have no interrest to port any PortaMx mods for elkarte or other forks ..
We do never take a look the source ..  ;D

All the forks are shure interesting, but .. we prefer SMF  ;)

The Portal we have ported for SMF 2.1 Alpha 1 and it's work perfectly.
Now we wait for the first beta or a final ...

It's ok with me. I am running both for the time and they all have their own pros and cons.  O0

And, I guess you don't mind adding the above mentioned license?  ;)

By the way, I finished getting the mod package for ElkArte (hehehe, I just find some time to do it). The only thing not working is the url where it didn't stick to its own subforum url but when to the main forum.

I hope to find its solution soon. I attached the latest package for ElkArte to those who are interested in using or helping (or both). ::)

Edited: Wrong package. Removed and added the correct one.

I can see that none is using or testing ElkArte with this mod but I will share the latest package here anyway. v142e package is attached. This will be upgraded to be a fully hook version later step by step.
