Hello,

I was just wondering if you will no longer be supporting the PMXBlog that works for SMF, since you are now developing your own forum software?

Thank you,
Grammy

We will see what comes .. currently we work on the forum system to get it to a RC state.
After te forum is done, we update the Portal for our Forum system.
And the Blog .. uhm .. a very old and ugly tool .. we will see what is posible  ;)

It's still so much better than anything SMF offers in the way of a blog.  This is kind of sad.

I had originally logged on to ask if there was a way to have a sort of notification system (like the little numbers that appear next to Personal Messages) when there are new blogs, but I can tell you guys have a lot on your plate.  I hope you keep the blog system; it's quite a good one.

If you'll forgive my asking here...  do you guys ever do custom edits for a fee?

(I realize you don't have a strong affinity for the blog and feel that it is outdated but there is a woeful shortage of decent blogs for SMF and yours is the best I've seen.)  Given that you may not support this wonderful blog in the future, I may be asking the impossible, but I at least have to ask.

You see, as great as the blog is, it is useless in a forum where there is no outward visible indication that there is new blog activity (such as one might see next to "Personal Messages" or Helpdesk) in the form of a number.  Because there is no indication, people don't know to click on Blogs and they just sort of die there.

I would be willing to pay for the work, if someone would be willing to create a visible indicator with the blog app.  Is this something the staff here would consider and, if not, would you please suggest where I should take this request?  Perhaps you know a good coder outside your current group who might take on the task?

Thank you so much.

As is say above .. we will see what is possible.
The Blog Mod works with the current SMF 2.0.x version.
And what comes next we can see if the PortaMx forum version ready.

Perhab it's possible to integrate a blog part in the portal mod that comes if the Forum in release state ...  ;)

Oh yes, it does work great with SMF 2.0.  I was just asking for an extra custom tweak and was offering to pay for it.  But I realize that you guys are busy.  I thought about asking a coder at SMF to do it but I didn't want to do that if you guys would not approve, since it's your mod.  Would you be opposed to my asking someone there to customize the blog mod for me to show new blog activity indicators?

I won't ask there, if you'd rather I didn't.   :)

Thank you.

Yes, thank you.  It is where the word Blogs appears in the top menu of the forum.  I was wondering if there could be some sort of indicator that would appear next to it, when there is new blog activity.  (You know how, when you log into your forum, and you can tell you have a new Personal Message, because there is a number next to My Messages?)  I was hoping for the same thing next to Blogs, a number that appeared if there is a new blog you've not read.  I don't think the number has to increment (for instance, show 3 if you've not read three blogs).  If it could at least only show a number one:  [1] that would be enough to cause the user to click on Blogs and see new ones.

You see, the way it is now, no one knows to click Blogs and so they sort of forget about them.  People write all these neat blogs but they go unnoticed by the other users because there is nothing to flag their attention to the fact that there are new blogs to read.  So, they never read them.

Having a number (or a small "new" icon) or something appear next to Blogs in the menu would keep the blog section alive and active because people would be drawn to it.

Thank you for asking.   :)

If you have a portal (like PortaMx) installed, it's very simple to create a small block, they use the PmxBlogSSI.php.
Also you can modifiy your index.template.php to add a small code to view the recent blogs ..

Here the code they need for this:
Code Select

global $boarddir;
include_once($boarddir .'/PmxBlogSSI.php');
PmxBlogSSI_Recent(5, 0);

This will show max the last 5 new blogs/comment.
The first blog (in the example image) have new blogs AND comments, the second have no news ..
With a little bit more fiddel, you can sort out readed blogs, so only unread is shown ...

That you can add to the index.template.php .. put this into a <div> ... </div> section.
It will looks like the attached image ..

If you not a good coder on php, you can send me your index.tempate.php file (zipped), then I can modify that for you ...  ;)

Oh, thank you so much!  Would this cause something to appear in the menu?  I'm attaching a couple of screenshots to explain better.  Screenshot one is what one normally sees when they have a new message.  That's an example of the sort of notification I mean.  Screenshot 2 shows what it would look like if there was a new blog added since the user had been logged in.

Thank you for your great patience with my questions.   :)

Well .. it's possible, but that need a lot of changes on the code (pmxblog and smf).
I think, you understand that this is not a normal support, but if you willing to make a little donat  ;) i can make that your you.
How you think on that, what I attach (as image) ?

if that all OK for you, tell my and I say you wich files I need for changing ...

That looks wonderful!  Is the number 4 an example of how many new blogs and the number 2 an example of comments?  (And really, just the number of Blogs would be fine, since the comments show, once someone actually goes to the blogs.)

I'm more than happy to make a donation; I think your time is valuable!   :)

I'm in the Central Standard Time zone in the Southern United States, so I don't always time things well, as far as logging on here.

Well ... ! tested that a little bit more and I see, that it's not possible to get the exactly number of unread bogs/comments at the time the button is created.
It's only possible to check if unread blogs and|or unread comments exists.
So in the blog button only the images for unread blogs and/or comments is shown.

This mean unread blogs and comments.
This mean unread blogs.
This mean unread comments.

Also the blog button link is changed to sa=unread if unread content exists.

If you accept this modification, send me the files /Sources/PmxBlog.php and the file /Sources/Subs.php as zip archive si I can apply the code they need for this ...

Thank you so much!  I'm attaching the two source files and I've located the donation button.  Will you please PM me the amount I should donate?  Thank you so much, again, for your help; this is a great favor!   :)
