Pretty URLs or SimpleSEF
« on: 13 Mar 10, 23:31:41 »
Hello Feline,

Is the Pretty URLs mod working correct with PortaMx 0.98? Or should I use SimpleSEF?
I really don't know which one is the best choice.

Thanks for your answer,

Vincent

I have not tested Pretty URLs, I prefer SimpleSEF. And the 1.0.3 works good (as you see here).

What does PrettyURL all change ?
Can you just disable it as SimpleSEF can be disabled just in the control panel ?

I think with PrettyURL you will have many more problems with other MODs, than with SimpleSEF , right ?

Using PrettyURLs you can make links to boards with boards name instead of IDs; links to topics could be converted from topics titles. But I can't normally redirect poral pages URLs... Relatieve links have superfluous slash... You can get problems with your own htaccess directives...
And finally you can't get normal support by developers! :(

Using PrettyURLs you can write board name yourself. I think that PrettyURLs more flexible than SimpleSEF because you can easy change what you are want by patching htaccess or PrettyUrls-Filters.php.
With PrettyURLs I made all links on my site as I want.
And yes, I changed Single Pages URLs to their names without "spage," :)

PrettyUrls make many, many changes on SMF source files .. SimpleSEF not.
PrettyUrls need a complexe .htaccess .. SimpleSEF not.
and ..
we can NOT give help, if PortaMx not work with PrettyUrl
we CAN give help for PortaMx and SimpleSEF.

And what difference for end-users are there much code changes or not? For me as adminisrator it is not important, if mod is workinkg...
Complexe htaccess give you possibility to setting your redirects as you want, and SimpleSEF's htaccess doesn't give it.
