This is no surprise considering just how friendly they are generally. They enjoy any opportunity to sit in a group and eat. So there are several such dishes that Thai people prepare. Thai Pad Prik King (Origin and Curiosities)
Pad prik king is also known as phat prik king. As already mentioned above, it is a dish of Thai origin, but to add to that it’s a Thai curry. This curry is normally drier than other different ones that are served in Thailand such as red curry. Preparing it involves frying it in oil but liquid coconut milk is not added. There’s a bit of a debate when it comes to the names of this dish. Well, Prik is Thai for chili while king means ginger. However, note that this dish contains no trace of ginger at all.

Pad Prik King Moo and Other Variants
Among the Thai people, you will find this dish, but you will also find pad prik king moo krob and other variations. Aside from the name, there are some differences between all of them. For example, pad prik king moo krob is simply crispy pork belly that has been stir fried alongside chilli and ginger.
Other variations include the pad prik king goong or the pad prik king gaeng. You will also come across the tofu variation, pad prik pao, pad prik haeng. The pad prik haeng is made with chicken, chilles and nuts. This variation gives an amazing contrast in texture since the nuts are crunchy while the meat is soft.
All these variations include curry paste. The main differences lie in the meat that was used in preparing them or the vegetables that were used in place of the meat. So you can always go ahead and choose what you love most for your pad prik king. Pad Prik King Recipe
- 1 pound chicken breast (thinly sliced)
- 1.5- 2 cups green beans ( cut into 2-inch sizes)
- 2 bell peppers (thinly sliced)
- 1 green and 1 red pepper (thinly sliced)
- 4-6 kaffir lime leaves (ripped into pieces)
- ½ cup chicken stock
- 1 carrot (thinly cut)
- 2 garlic cloves (minced)
- 4 tablespoons of oil (neutrally flavored)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 3-5 tablespoons of Thai red curry paste
- 1 teaspoon fish sauce
- Prepare all your ingredients and place them on the counter
- Follow by preparing your chicken and vegetables by cutting them so that they are ready for the stir-frying process.
- Take your sliced chicken and place it in a bowl then add a teaspoon of oil and a teaspoon of fish sauce then mix properly and allow to sit for between 5-10 minutes.
- Semi-cook your cut chicken.
- Grab a skillet or a wok and in it add a tablespoon of oil then place it over high heat. The moment it gets hot enough add in the chicken and allow it to cook for between two to three minutes. Once it’s semi-cooked transfer it to a plate then allow it to sit until much later. Depending on how big your skillet is, you might want to divide your chicken and cook it in batches. They shouldn’t be overcrowded.
- After that, you can start preparing the sauce. Add the two tablespoons of oil that you have left into the skillet or wok you’re using then reduce the heat to a minimum. Add in some red curry paste followed by the garlic. Stir these ingredients and let them cook for one more minute before adding kaffir lime leaves and also the chicken stock. Stir everything well.
- Add in the vegetables including the bell peppers, carrots, as well as the green beans inside the skillet or wok. Stir fry for between 2 to 3 minutes.
- Take the semi-cooked chicken that you had set aside before and return it to the skillet or wok then stir fry it for 2 minutes or just slightly longer. Ensure the vegetables are just as soft as you prefer them. Let the sauce thicken as per your preference.
